When we spend time with Him, we can give from the overflow. We can give out of the generosity of God in our lives.
I was heading home when I remembered I needed to purchase bread. As I drove, I asked to see God’s favor. Yep, I prayed the good old “give me a good carpark prayer,”
“Please give me a good car park, Lord, one right outside the bread store.”
I laughed out loud in surprise when I got one. It was the same bread shop where I had stopped and prayed for the owner and her daughter’s family. Crazy miracles had flowed from the first time, when I stopped for her and she cried as she recommitted her life to Jesus. She became a beautiful kiss from God every time I bought bread.
I popped into her store, bought the bread, and headed home.
As I pulled up to my home, I saw that someone—it turned out to be her daughter—had left something at my door. Getting closer, I saw a bunch of red roses, with a bag containing a loaf of bread, six small bread rolls, and some sweet scones. Now, people from the USA, these are not what you call “scones.” They are beautiful, light, fluffy, savory treats that we put jam and cream on and eat with coffee or tea. People from the UK will understand what I’m talking about.
I gathered the goodies, and I headed inside to spend some time with God. Just him and me. I unpacked some of the bag, popped the roses in water, and sent a thank-you message to the angel who had left the gift on my front doorstep. I then got on with my date with God.
As my time with him ended, I rose and emptied the bag of bread. As I did, I had a bit of a giggle. There, at the bottom of the bag, were some CDs I had missed. One was called “Never Alone,” and the other was called “Walk With Us.”
God was showing me his love through that of another. In his way, God was saying to me,
“As long as you come to me, making sure you are well fed [my loaf of bread that I bought, the price of which was my attention and my time], I will multiply what you have and in this way there will always more than enough for yourself and others [the gift loaf of bread].” He continued. “I will also sweeten what you have [the sweet scones] and I will change it so that it is just what others need [the small rolls that were just right for kids, for those young ones in the Lord I was leading in the ways of the Lord]. Oh, and by the way, I love you [the red roses].”
The CDs spoke to me of never being alone (the CD called “Never Alone”) that regardless of how I might feel, he was always by my side. I was being invited to walk with them – the Trinity (Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit – the CD was called, “Walk with us”). He was also calling me to walk with the Bride of Christ. It was an invitation into family, fellowship, a journey with him, and others too.
I felt loved, encouraged, grateful and filled.
I picked up the extra loaf of bread, set off for school pickups, and gave the loaf of bread away. It surprised the teacher I gave it to, but I knew I needed to give away what I had received in abundance. I knew I needed to flow out of my abundance and give into my immediate community. There was more than enough for my family at home.
Now please hear the double entendre in what I share.
The following day, the little rolls fed little ones–my children and a friend’s children. And, together, we all enjoyed the sweetness of the sweet scones. I had bread for “the children” of God to share with my own and others.
It all needed to be consumed (and shared). It was simply too much to hoard, and if we had, it would have gone hard and moldy. Similarly, if I hoard what God gives me, I become hard and moldy. If I did not give the bread away, allowing it to flow outwards, what I had been blessed with would have been wasted. There had to be an outward flow, for it would soon become unfit for consumption, and it really was too much for us to hoard.
As we spend time with Him, we will always come out with more than enough, for ourselves, and for those we meet on our way. There will always be enough because of the generosity of God in our lives.
So I ask you, what life-giving food have you received? Do you want more? Will you give away what you have? There is always more in God, we will never go hungry, we will never be thirsty. Spend time with him, and then go and flow, and as you do, what you have will increase, there will always be more than enough because…
God is Good!
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” – John 6:35

Beautiful 🌟 thank you for sharing that 💛 abundance and overflow 🙌
Hi Beth, thank you so much for taking the time to bring encouragement to the generosity theme that God so often richly blesses us with and how important for us to remember to pass on that same gift to others. It’s through the unexpected gifting that brings such joy, and the blessings then gifting others . Merry Christmas, what an incredible gift it was to have Jesus take on human form and come share His love in person. No other gift compares! Such love!!💗
